Reviews for Highway:Extended

"Under the microscope this time is the new CD from Fake Moss containing a selection of songs from their debut EP, 4 previously unreleased tracks and two videos. With just under an hours worth of music is on this extended single could be a bit longer, especially as two of the tracks are remixes of the first one. Nevertheless this is a real gem.

Formed in 1996 by 3 young Swedes, Erik Johnsson (vocals and guitars), Dag Nemeth (drums) and Torkel Jelvinger (bass guitar), taking a break from their respective studies in art, film and design they were heavily influenced by bands like The Doors and were such fans of British Model Kate Moss that their name is a tribute to her. Nine years later and they're still going strong, now a four-piece with Maria Weimer brought in as a keyboard player, Kim Weider as the drummer and Johan Sjöblom taking over on bass.

If you were to put Morrissey in Spandau Ballet and rock them up a bit you'd get something approximating Fake Moss's sound. The whole CD is full of well constructed songs with great lyrics that are just a shade away from making sense, such that you're not sure if there's some deeper meaning or symbolism. There's a slightly dark and depressive vibe to the music of Fake Moss at times, varied and electric.

"Highway", the title track, really grabbed me the first time I listened to it.
It's the kind of track that will be the determiner of whether or not you like this group.
